Ecotherapy is rooted in the understanding that we, as humans, are not separate from, superior to, or unaffected by nature. Instead, humans and the natural world are integrally entangled as part of the same planet. In practice, ecotherapy takes many forms. If you choose to explore ecotherapy with me, it may look like taking therapy out of the office or screen and into nature through walking, meditating at a park, or simply holding a session outdoors. It may also look like inviting nature into the room with us through an object from nature or guided imagery exercise.

The purpose of ecotherapy is also multifaceted. Getting outside of the therapy room and into the natural world can open new connections and avenues of understanding. It can be wonderfully calming and regulating to be outdoors. Ecotherapy is also an opportunity to invite nature into the therapeutic relationship, recognizing that humans are not the only beings on earth who are able to impart knowledge and wisdom.
